Irish-born Australian Catholic clergyman, Archbishop of Melbourne for 46 years, was one of the most influential public figures in 20th century Australia.
I created the standing figure of Daniel Mannix as if the wind was blowing from behind him. In his life Mannix was always weathering some storm or other but he remained unruffled and lived long.
The statue was commissioned by Cardinal Pell when he was Archbishop of Melbourne. The work stands in the grounds of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne.
